Iyengar Yoga Testimonials

Yoga at the Natural Health CentreI am just coming to the end of my first term of Iyengar Yoga at The Natural Health Centre in Leeds and couldn’t wait to sign up for the next term!

Unlike many classes, theirs are small (8 or 10 max) and tailored, not only to the abilities, but also to the needs of those attending, with everyone receiving some personal tuition each session.

The exercises are well demonstrated by the Instructors whose attention to detail and commitment to every student is impressive; building a level of trust that makes progress feel both safe and “organic”.

The classroom itself is just the right size, affording plenty of room per student, whilst creating an intimate atmosphere. It is also scrupulously clean and pleasant to work in.

After just 7 weeks, I feel that my core strength, posture and flexibility have all improved and I am looking forward to building on that in the weeks ahead.

As someone who has practised Iyengar yoga for many years I was delighted to find The Natural Health Centre in Leeds when I moved back to UK from abroad. The teachers are all exceptionally well prepared and, because the classes are small, they are able to give individual correction and advice. Everyone is extremely friendly. I felt at home from the first day. If you are thinking that yoga might be for you, give it a try at The Natural Health Centre. It’s a great place to discover the benefits of yoga. If you have more experience, they will gently push you to get the best out of yourself.

As a bloke I was initially sceptical about yoga, but this quickly disappeared. Iyengar yoga is a fantastic way of maintaining and improving core strength, flexibility and joint mobility. As a keen cyclist I often suffer from stiffness, aches and pains but since attending Iyengar yoga classes these have vastly reduced. With such a busy lifestyle the class is also great for unwinding. However, it is not simply about sitting around meditating. It’s like having a personal trainer for stretches and flexibility and you really do work hard each week.

All in all I would not hesitate to recommend these classes. Iyengar yoga is a fantastic activity for both men and women which, when done weekly, really compliments cardio/weight exercise and has immeasurably improved my sense of well being and fitness.

I have been learning with Sarah for a year. She’s an excellent teacher: warm, calm and paces her classes very well.

‘Over the past 14 years I have studied yoga under many teachers and I can honestly say that Myka is the most involved and attentive teacher I have experienced. She strives to ensure that we practise each position correctly to avoid injury and to get the maximum physical and psychological benefit out of our sessions. I can guarantee that I am not the only one of her students who feel this way – people return to Myka’s classes regularly because she is an excellent teacher.’

Kate’s classes are both challenging and inspirational.

I have been attending Sarah’s Iyengar classes for a number of years. I have done other classes previously but have never found them as good. I have arthritis and I know that my mobility, strength and balance all benefit. I walk easier the day after a class.

As I am a complete beginner I’ve appreciated how Sarah explains things very clearly and the sessions are challenging without ever feeling like the poses are unattainable. I go home every Tuesday feeling completely calm, energised and relaxed.
